Dawson Women's Shelter is hiring!
Positions: 2 Program Managers with the Dawson Women’s Shelter (DWS), each Term Full Time; 12-month contract
Wage: $40-42 per hour based on experience
Work schedule: 32 hours per week with additional after hours on call responsibilities – paid for 40 hours per week to compensate for on call requirement
Starting Date: mid July or August 2026

Reporting to the Executive Director, and working in collaboration with other management and staff, the Program Manager (PM) coordinates the Dawson Women’s Shelter programs and services and provides team leadership and staff training. The PM provides feedback to staff in keeping with a consistent, best-practices approach for service delivery in relation to the Code of Ethics and other established policies; assists with internal policy development; provides support, advocacy and accompaniment to service users; performs administrative tasks; role models respectful and empathetic communication; acts as a positive community liaison; coordinates and delivers prevention, education and outreach initiatives; and performs other duties related to the operation of Dawson Women’s Shelter such as providing on-call after hours support on rotation.
Qualifications:
• Two years of management level experience and supervisory duties in the helping professions; proven team leadership skills
• Understanding of the dynamics of abusive relationships and other forms of gender-based violence
• Experience working with adults and children in crisis
• Good organizational and prioritizing skills
• Ability to resolve conflicts appropriately; ability to adhere to strict confidentiality
• Excellent written and verbal communication; strong computer skills and competency with social media
• Intersectional feminist analysis and ability to work from within an antiracism/anti-oppression framework
• Understanding of the history of residential schools in Canada, intergenerational trauma & the impacts of colonization on Indigenous Peoples
• Degree in Women’s/Gender studies, social sciences/social work or related field an asset but not required
• Knowledge of community and Yukon resources and agencies
• Experience in organizing/facilitating workshops, community events
Duties:
• Provide support, team leadership, training and supervision for staff including verbal and written feedback concerning documentation, service delivery, debriefing etc.
• Coordinate programs such as 24-hour support line, emergency shelter, drop-in, outreach and violence prevention initiatives; assist with policy and procedure development
• Assessing house needs and ensure that safety, security, and maintenance standards are continuously met; overseeing practical aspects such as inventory management and purchasing supplies
• Actively support with frontline work with shelter residents and outreach service users including advocacy and accompaniments
• Work closely with Executive Director and other Managers on a range of projects and initiatives
• Work weekends, evenings or overnight as needed
• Assume on-call after hours responsibilities on rotation
• Assume acting director duties when requested
