Batik is a traditional fabric dyeing technique from Indonesia that uses wax to both fix and resist dyes. By painting wax onto cotton and submerging our cloth in various dye baths we will create multilayered works of art that you can take home with you. Have something you’re excited to batik? If it’s cotton, bring it to the workshop! DWS will also have lots of material ready to be batiked.
Who: All women (trans-inclusive), Two Spirit, non-binary, and gender expansive folks that want to learn new skills in a space that centres women’s experiences are very welcome to DWS’ summer workshops. Kids under thirteen years old are asked to come with an adult buddy.
Where: All workshops are planned to happen in DWS’ outdoor garden. Please plan and dress for some fun outdoor learning. We’ve got lots of sunscreen!
